A resource and platform for sustainable community development.

We live in a time characterized by major challenges where ecological, social and economic perspectives affect each other. In this complex world, knowledge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics – so-called STEM skills – is a prerequisite for both individual development and societal participation.

Skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving are essential for responsibly shaping the future. STEM skills are therefore more than just a question of skills supply and national innovation; It is very much a democratic issue. In order for citizens to be able to navigate the public discourse, critically examine information and take a stand on complex issues – from climate change to artificial intelligence – a basic scientific understanding is required.

By democratizing science and strengthening individuals' scientific capital throughout their lives, we give every person the conditions to be an active and decisive citizen. This is how we secure a society that can solve challenges on a scientific basis and at the same time push for new, sustainable innovations.

Universeum's operations rest on a clear logic of change where we translate these insights into action. We are the arena where citizens, academia, business and the public sector meet to create solutions for a hopeful future.

Sweden's National Science Centre

We are convinced that a public arena like Universeum is needed – a place where citizens, academia, the business community and the public sector can meet around issues that are important for the development of society. Where questions and thoughts about the world and science are allowed to move freely. Where sustainable ideas are born, fueled and praised.

Universeum is Sweden's national science center and one of the ten most visited experiences in Sweden. Every year, we meet over half a million people on and off Universeum. We do this with strong support in the Korsvägen Foundation and our four founders and in broad collaboration with society.

The Korsvägen Foundation

Universeum opened on 8 June 2001. Then, as now, we are a non-profit limited liability company owned by the Korsvägen Foundation, and the four founders behind the foundation are founders.

Founder

Universeum was founded by Chalmers University of Technology, the University of Gothenburg, the Gothenburg region and the West Sweden Chamber of Commerce. We are as proud as we are grateful for our close collaboration with the founders.

Donors

To develop our business and offering, we are dependent on the support and commitment of the outside world. We are grateful and proud of the trust from our donors, some of Sweden's largest foundations.

Partners

As a partner of Universeum, you are part of our development and investment for the future. We benefit from each other's expertise and power so that both organisations benefit from the cooperation.

Our mission.

Universeum is a public arena for lifelong learning where children and adults explore the world through science and technology. We create experiences that strengthen creativity and innovation, increase knowledge and activate critical thinking. With science as a foundation and a pedagogy that engages, we challenge people to enrich their lives and act for a sustainable world.
