a new professorship for a new era.
The newly established professorship links educational research with learning environments, programmes and the very latest digital technology at Universeum. With the power of the University of Gothenburg's internationally leading research in both pedagogy and digitalisation, we create great opportunities to contribute to the development of learning in technology, science and mathematics.
Applied research at Sweden's National Science Centre.
The purpose of the professorship is to promote children's and young people's learning in science, technology and mathematics at Universeum and at the same time conduct research on data visualisation and learning. This means that for the first time we will have applied research at Universeum.
The professorship is closely linked to Universeum's investments in data visualization, through the upcoming visualization judgment and the recently opened visualization lab. These and other environments also become places for visitors' experiences and applied research.

With a focus on data visualization and learning.
Lena Pareto is the professor who, from a pedagogical perspective, explores how the very latest technology in data visualization can be used to stimulate learning. She received her doctorate in computer science in 1995 and since then she has been passionate about and researching how technology and digitalisation can support people's learning in different situations.
Her workplace is both at Universeum and the Department of Education, Communication and Learning at the Faculty of Education at the University of Gothenburg.

The possibilities of data visualization.
With data visualizations, it is possible to create a visual experience of complex relationships or changes over time. When the visitor is not limited to things that we can normally see and experience, you can gain an understanding of various phenomena, such as how mathematical calculations are done or how our planet has evolved over millions of years.
If the visitor can also interact with the data and test for themselves what happens if you change something, the experience becomes even stronger. Right here, at the intersection of humans and technology, there are answers to how we create learning situations around data and interaction with it.
A joint effort for the future of learning.
The professorship is a joint initiative of the University of Gothenburg and Universeum. It has been made possible by the FRF Foundation, the Herman Krefting Foundation for Allergy and Asthma Research, the IngaBritt and Arne Lundberg Research Foundation, the Royal and Hvitfeldt Foundation and the Mary von Sydow Foundation's Donation Fund, which have joined forces and jointly donated funds.
