An environmental policy that makes a difference.
Universeum has been environmentally certified according to the Swedish Environmental Base since 2022. This means that our environmental work is not just fine words, but a firmly anchored part of our corporate governance and our daily decisions.
Through our systematic environmental management system and annual audits, we ensure that sustainability issues are always prioritized. Our sustainability council, with representatives from across the business, drives the work forward so that we can constantly improve – both in our own organisation and in our supply chains.
We minimize our footprint.
Running a facility with rainforests, aquariums and advanced technology requires resources. We are aware of our impact and work actively to run our business with the smallest possible environmental footprint. Our focus is on the areas where we can make the biggest difference:
- Resource efficiency: We optimize energy and water consumption in our complex environments.
- Responsible sourcing: We choose suppliers who share our view of sustainability. With us, environmental considerations weigh just as heavily as quality and price.
- Circular thinking: We reduce the amount of waste and work to increase recycling and reuse when rebuilding our environments.
- Sustainable travel: We encourage and create conditions for both employees and visitors to travel climate-smart to and from us.
Our environmental promises.
Our most important contribution to a sustainable world is the knowledge we impart. We promise that through our exhibitions and programs, we give our visitors the knowledge, tools and courage to act for a sustainable world themselves.
We also promise to practice what we preach. We must always keep our own consumption at the lowest possible level and constantly evaluate our environmental impact based on current legislation and modern research. This means that we will:
- Keeping our own energy and water consumption at the lowest possible level.
- Work actively to reduce the consumption of goods and materials for the operation of the business.
- Work with responsible sourcing, so that a larger proportion of goods and services are purchased from suppliers who have an environmental management system, and that sustainability weighs as heavily as quality and price when choosing between different options.
- Keeping the total amount of waste in the business at the lowest possible level, and increasing the proportion of waste that is reused and recycled.
- Encourage and contribute to sustainable travel among our employees and visitors.
Explore the world. Shape the future.
Our environmental work is only one part of a larger puzzle. Every day, we work to increase people's knowledge and ability to act for a sustainable world – through experiences that leave an imprint on the heart, but not on the environment.
Conservation work on the universe and in the world.
Our work for sustainable development is largely about protecting biodiversity. By spreading knowledge about endangered species and participating in international conservation projects, we work actively to protect the planet's habitats – both here at home and in other parts of the world.
