Universeum is a public arena for lifelong learning where children and adults explore the world through science, technology and mathematics. We create experiences that strengthen creativity and innovation, increase knowledge and activate critical thinking. With science as a foundation and a pedagogy that engages, we challenge people to enrich their lives and act for a sustainable world.
One of Universeum's three overarching goals is to create long-term sustainability, and with our operations we strive to:
- Give people the knowledge and power to make the earth a better place to live.
- Contribute to strengthened skills supply, increased innovation and action competence for Agenda 2030 in society.
Universeum's operations also have a negative impact on the environment. The environmental work aims to conduct the business with the least possible environmental impact and to work systematically with continuous improvements to reduce the environmental impact over time.
The greatest impact of Universeum's operations on the environment consists of:
- Energy and water consumption in our property, which includes a rainforest, aquarium facility and learning environments with many digital installations.
- Goods and services we purchase for the operation of the business.
- Waste from activities, visitors, animal husbandry and staff.
- Regular renewal and reconstruction of learning environments.
- Transportation to the facility.
- Visitors' and staff's travel to and from the facility.
Our environmental management system ensures that Universeum continuously evaluates our environmental impact, and focuses its environmental work on the most significant aspects, that our staff have a high level of knowledge and commitment to environmental work, and that we comply with applicable legislation.
Environmental and sustainability work is also an important component in meeting Universeum's goals for customer experience and employee experience.

Universeum's environmental policy is included in business planning and is updated annually. Environmental work is carried out throughout the business and by all staff. The work is coordinated by the Sustainability Forum, which has been commissioned by the company's management and CEO.

Conservation work on the universe and in the world.
Universeum's work for sustainable development is largely about protecting biodiversity. We spread knowledge about endangered species and habitats and are involved in several conservation projects – on site and through collaborations in other parts of the world.
