Sharks, rays and fish

Dive below the surface in some of the largest aquariums in Europe. Watch nimble sharks swim by, study rays from above and marvel at hundreds of fish in different colors and shapes.

At Universeum you learn more about life in the oceans and rivers. In the Ocean Zone and the Rainforest, there is everything from giant water systems to small aquariums showing a particularly exciting habitat or species. In the aquarium tunnel, sharks and fish swim both around and above you. A magical experience!

From small atoms to supernovae

Universeum is filled to the brim with knowledge and experiences. About you, about our planet and about the whole universe. Make a journey of discovery into the body, experiment in the Chemistry Lab, understand how the world is connected and travel into space!

The Rainforest

Make your way on rickety suspension bridges and up into the 25 meter high kapok tree. Feel the tropical heat and experience birds, monkeys, frogs and sloths up close.

The Rainforest is a great jungle adventure. Red ibis, toco toucans and small birds fly freely over the treetops. Frog song, birds chirping and the monkeys’ chatter are heard over the waterfall. In the humid heat, we explore an enormous richness of species and understand the importance of preserving biodiversity.

The whole world – right in the middle of Gothenburg

Universeum is the National Science Centre of Sweden. In our large house, we explore the world through science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Here you get the knowledge and power to make the earth a better and more sustainable place to live.

The Ocean Zone

Life beneath the surface features more than 30,000 known species of fish. You can meet several hundred of them at Universeum.

There’s chemistry everywhere, around and inside us. Even our thoughts is a chemical process. The Chemistry Lab is where we explore the magic of chemistry.

An 18,000 cubic metre, green rainforest cube! Birds, monkeys, sloths, piranhas, caimans, and frogs all live here, among the tropical plants and trees.

The Reptilarium holds a globally-unique collection of venomous snakes and lizards. Find out how they how they inspired important scientific discoveries.

Prepped for a full day

When it’s time to refill the energy depots, there is both a restaurant and a café in our house. During the summer there is also a summer café on the rooftop terrace.

Sustainable and enjoyable is our food philosophy. Everything we put on the plate is chosen with care and all dishes are climate-labeled with CO2 equivalents, so that you can make good and sustainable choices for both you and the world.
